Mary Sale

Sponsoring Yeomen of the Guard

Mary Sale had a long and distinguished career as a professor of Comparative Literature and Classics at Washington University until her retirement in 1997.  Her greatest professional accomplishment was the mathematical analysis of oral poetry (Ancient Egyptian and Greek and Latin).  She has had a lifetime passion for music ranging from Broadway musicals to classical opera to the piano music that she played.  Her introduction to opera was listening to Faust broadcast from New York on the radio when she was 10 years old.  She is delighted to sponsor her favorite Gilbert and Sullivan operetta for Winter Opera–her favorite opera company!
