Meet the Designer

We are please to introduce our new
Costume & Alterations Director, Lauren Smith!

We are looking ahead with hopeful hearts that our Costume & Alterations Shop will soon be abuzz with machines running and visitors chatting. In the meantime, we want to take this opportunity to introduce you to our newest team member, Lauren. Lauren is our new Costume & Alterations Director and the head of the hardworking team behind the washable face masks many of you are generously buying and gifting to local nursing homes, elderly family members, and hospitals.

Lauren Smith Bearden is a St. Louis based costume designer and technician. Recent local credits include Hedwig and the Angry Inch (Q-Collective) Guys and Dolls (Stray Dog Theatre) and King Lear (Ozark Actors Theatre). She also serves as the Costume Director for Clayton High School and the Jewish Community Center’s Youth Theatre. Other companies she has worked for include The St. Louis Rep, New Harmony Theatre, and the Purple Rose Theatre Company. She holds an MFA in Theatre with an emphasis in costume design and technology from the University of Florida.

Lauren is the Costume Designer for Winter Opera St. Louis’ upcoming Season 14 as well as the resident seamstress for our year-round Alterations Shop. The Costume & Alterations Shop is open to the community as well as available for hire to local theatre and operatic companies.

Experienced in tailoring, costume creation, and custom designs, the Winter Opera Costume & Alterations Shop can meet your needs. The shop has assisted local organizations such as The Muny, Opera Theatre of St. Louis, and The St. Louis Rep with their costume production as well as local schools such as Clayton High School and Liberty High School.
